Are you ready to have the most SNOW-mazing reading adventure this winter? Join the McHenry Public Library’s Yeti, Set, Read! Winter Reading Challenge on Beanstack, or pick up a reading log from the Questions Desk.
Sleigh your way to the finish line! Read and log 600 minutes to earn your completion prize book and other Yeti treasures. You can collect badges and share progress along the way with your friends from your home library with a Beanstack friend code. The Winter Reading program is open to all ages, so don’t let this opportunity slip through your mittens!

Library Lovers Expedition — February 1 - March 31
Join McHenry Public Library on an epic expedition!
McHenry is the Heart of the Fox River! Receive a Brag Tag when you check in at one of the 15 participating libraries.

How It Works
Stop in and register at any of the participating McHenry County libraries to receive your Expedition brochure, map, and your first Brag Tag.
Between February 1 and March 31, visit other participating libraries to "check in" and collect a new brag tag. Visit 12 of the 15 libraries to be entered into a drawing for a prize box of your choice (selected at registration). Visit all 15 libraries to be entered into the grand prize box drawing!
Most libraries have a fun activity or craft. Be sure to look around and explore everything each library offers! MPLD will be offering a "Joy Jar" and Waldo Search for adults, as well as an underwater obstacle course and axolotl craft for youth.

We're making it easier than ever to get your library card by bringing sign-up events to your neighborhood!

Library staff will be in the community helping new cardholders sign up, answering questions, and handing out special giveaways to those getting a new card or renewing their card at a sign-up event or in the library. To sign up for a library card, bring photo identification and proof of your current address.

The library has undergon construction to replace plumbing and flooring.
The library operated, business as usual, throughout the majority of the project.

Project Background / Acerca del proyecto:
The Library closed in December 2024 to address an immediate sewage backup in the building, which uncovered more significant issues with those pipes. Since then, we have been planning this large replacement project and constantly monitoring the issues to address any backups proactively. The building's aging infrastructure needs to be addressed, as the sewer lines being replaced are original to the structure, over 50 years old, and failing.
Upgrading the sewer system will improve the library's overall functionality and prevent future issues. The new carpet will also enhance the library's overall look, increase safety, reduce noise, and improve cleanliness.

La Biblioteca cerró en diciembre de 2024 para solucionar un desbordamiento inmediato de aguas residuales en el edificio, lo cual reveló problemas más graves con dichas tuberías. Desde entonces, hemos estado planificando este gran proyecto de reemplazo y monitoreando constantemente los problemas para abordar cualquier desbordamiento de forma proactiva. Es necesario abordar la infraestructura obsoleta del edificio, ya que las líneas de alcantarillado que se reemplazarán son originales de la estructura, tienen más de 50 años y presentan fallas.
