Bilingual Youth Services Associate Librarian (Full-time, 37.5 hours per week)

The McHenry Public Library District is seeking an individual to join our Youth Services department team. This individual will be responsible for running programs and story times as well as conducting bilingual presentations to promote library services. This position provides assistance to our patrons by staffing the Questions Desk. The position performs a variety of tasks including: providing material reference, readers’ advisory, technology instruction and collection management. This position requires evening hours and weekend hours.

Qualifications include:

  • Associate degree or LTA certificate required (or equiv. work experience)
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Previous library experience and knowledge of children’s literature required.
  • Must have basic computer and Internet search skills.
  • Proficiency with speaking, reading, and writing Spanish required
  • Previous experience working with bilingual patrons desired


Salary and benefits:

  • The salary range for this position is approx. $15.50-17.50 per hour.

Page (Shelver) (Part-time, approx. 15 hours per week)

The McHenry Public Library District is seeking an individual to join our Circulation department team. This individual will be responsible for sorting and shelving books and other library materials. This position also straightens the collections and checks materials for repairs needed to maintain an orderly appearance.   This position requires weekend hours.

Hours Required:

  • Monday: 9am to 5pm
  • Friday: 9am to 1pm
  • Weekend, 1 per month plus an extra Sunday:
    Saturday (9am to 5pm) & Sunday (Noon to 4pm)

Qualifications include:

  • High School graduate (or equivalent) preferred
  • Basic computer skills preferred
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements (pushing carts weighing up to 150 pounds, occasionally lift, push, or move up to 35 pounds)


Salary and benefits:

  • The salary range for this position is approx. $8.00-9.00 per hour.
